FAQs

What is the purpose of the merger?

Bluebell Surgery has been supported by Highwoods Surgery since May 2024 under a caretaker arrangement. Following a formal procurement process by the Integrated Care Board, Mill Road Surgery was awarded the contract in February 2026 to take on the long-term provision of services.

When will this happen?

From Friday 1st May 2026, Bluebell Surgery will operate as a branch site of Mill Road Surgery.

What will change?

Initially, patients should not notice any change in how they access healthcare services. Our priority is to ensure a smooth and safe transition for both patients and staff.

Over time, we aim to improve access to services, including increasing digital options, while continuing to support patients who prefer to access care by telephone or in person.

Is my GP practice closing?

No. Bluebell Surgery will remain open. In time, patients will also be able to access services at both Bluebell Surgery and Mill Road Surgery sites.

Am I still registered as a patient?

Yes. You will remain registered and continue to receive care as normal. From 6th May 2026, patient records from Bluebell Surgery and Mill Road Surgery will be held on a single, merged clinical system to support joined-up care.

Do I need to do anything?

No. You do not need to take any action. You can continue to access services in the same way as you do now.

How do I book an appointment?

You can continue to book appointments by contacting reception as you do currently.  Over time, we plan to introduce additional ways to access appointments, including digital options, alongside telephone and face-to-face access.

Will appointment availability change?

There will be no immediate changes from 1st May 2026. Over time, we aim to increase appointment availability across both sites.

Can I be seen at either site?

Not immediately. However, in due course you will be able to access appointments at both Bluebell Surgery and Mill Road Surgery and indicate your preferred location.

Will opening hours change?

No. Opening hours will remain Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm. Enhanced access appointments will continue to be available by appointment on Wednesday evenings until 8pm.

How do I access urgent care?

For urgent appointments, please contact the surgery as normal. If you require urgent medical attention when the surgery is closed, or if we are at capacity, please call NHS 111 or 999 in an emergency.

Will my medical records be safe?

Yes. Your medical records will remain secure and confidential. They will continue to be managed in line with NHS data protection standards and information governance requirements.

Will there be any disruption during the system merge?

We do not anticipate any disruption. However, as with any system change, there may occasionally be delays. We appreciate your patience and understanding while staff adapt to the new system.

Can new patients still register?

Yes. We will continue to accept new patients who live within the practice boundary.

What area do you cover?

The practice boundary will expand to include both existing Mill Road Surgery and Bluebell Surgery areas. Updated boundary information will be available on our websites.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

You can contact us by emailing: millroad.surgery@nhs.net

Alternatively, you can speak to reception or write to the practice manager at either site.

Where can I find more information?

Further updates will be shared on our website and within the surgery.

Will I be informed about future changes?

Yes. Any significant updates or changes to services will be clearly communicated via our website and in the practice.
