Extended Hours Appointments

At the moment we do offer one evening a week from 6.30-7.30pm for those unable to attend during working hours.  These appointments have to be booked via the reception and are here with our GP.

As at 1st October 2018 we will be offering extended hours appointments every  evening and at weekends and Bank Holidays.  This is not a walk in service. This is being provided by GP Colchester who will be working out of  rooms on the first floor at the surgery.

These are bookable appointments made with our receptionists who will inform you that this is upstairs and not at the surgery.

These appointments are for those patients unable to get to the surgery during office hours and can be used for routine as well as urgent problems.

The following list is a List of Appointments not suitable for this service

  • Ear Syringing
  • DVLA/Medical Examinations
  • Long Term Condition Reviews
  • Travel Vaccinations/ Child Immunisations
  • Coil Implant and Removal
  • Glass or Foreign Bodies in Fingers etc – we are unable to remove them in GP
  • Removal of Staples (we are able to remove sutures)
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Dressings
  • Cryotherapy
  • Joint/Muscle injections
  • Patients with drug/alcohol abuse problems
  • Med 3 Certificates – we can issue Med 3 for the first occurrence but further Med 3’s should be issued by patient’s own GP for continuity of care.  This includes ESA assessments.
  • Repeat Prescriptions – restrictions on our SystmOne Unit prevent us from being able to issue a repeat prescription.  We can request (patient to pick up from own surgery) or issue an acute  prescription for urgent medication.

Pre-bookable appointments

You can book a non urgent or follow-up appointment up to 7 weeks in advance.

Same day appointments

Each morning at 8.00am we release the remainder of appointments which are called embargo slots.  This enables patients a same day appointment when required.

Blood Tests

You can now book appointments in the morning to have your blood tests taken at the surgery.  If you see the GP and they say you require a blood test please book at reception on your way out.  You can have these taken at the WIC if you prefer.  As long as the pathology requests are on your notes they can be seen by the WIC so you do not need to have the paperwork.  The only blood tests to be taken at the hospital are those asked for by a Consultant.

Telephone appointments

We have a number of telephone appointments on a daily basis and when you telephone for an appointment the receptionist will offer you one of these, if the problem does not require a face to face appointment.

Book your appointments online – NEW

You can now book/cancel your appointments online. If you have a SystmOnline account please login to online services. If you do not yet have an account but would like one please contact the surgery.

Appointment reminder service

We now have an appointment reminder service in place. This is done by SMS text message via your mobile phone. This is to help patients remember and reduce the “did not attend” appointments. You will receive a conformation text when booking the appointment and a reminder text the day before your appointment. To sign-up for this service please contact the practice.

If you no longer require your appointment please cancel it as soon as possible.
